Dave Ward-Camp Lejeune

Updated: Dec 8, 2023

On Thursday we had the Thanksgiving food giveaway at Camp LeJeune that your Detachment helped us with.  Total funds raised was a little over $45,000 to make this happen. We bought and gave away 1,163 turkeys, 5,190 dozen of extra-large eggsand over 2,500 bags of food containing 2 cans of corn and green beans, cranberry sauce plus a package of instant potatoes and stuffing mix.

Approximately 200 more bags went to MCAS Cherry Point. We also provided Commissary Gift cards to 1/8, 2/6 and 3/6 to feed the Marines that will be stuck in the Barracks for Thanksgiving and Christmas; a home cooked meal. Also bought a lot of snacks for the USO at the CLT airport. I will send pictures of the snacks for them later.

It was a great day for sure. The Marines that basically were told to work the event initially had mostly frowns on their faces but once the families started coming through, they became big smiles. We not only had our Marine and FMF Corpsman's families but also US Coast Guard families. a few US Army families and a couple of US Air Force Families that came thru the line for food. They are all stationed aboard the Marine bases in the area.

Once again thanks to each and every one of you for your support of this most worthy event.
